We own an online bookshop that offers a few different items that we think might be of interest to book lovers or those enthused by our fauna and flora. We realise that not everyone has spare money right now, and when you do, you don't want to waste your money. So, Scott and I thought we would share a few of our products leading up to Christmas for those needing ideas for loved ones.
For our ninth bookshop blog Tie shares the amazing artwork of René Villanueva Maldonado and introduces you to the man behind these stunning works of art.
René lives in Mexico City in Mexico. René describes himself as an arborist by profession, a naturalist by vocation and has over 15years of experience working with wildlife. Incredibly the man with this outstanding talent is a mere 35yrs of age and his passion and drive has seen him accomplish many things already. René is a Natural History illustrator, filmmaker and the owner of Historia Natvrae. René has instructed numerous nature enthusiasts and professionals alike, given lectures and courses at universities and scientific institutions, written books and articles and also illustrated for books and articles. René is an active member of the Board of Directors of the Mexican Arboriculture Association, and if all of that wasn’t enough, René is a technical advisor on Indomable por naturaleza (Untamed By Nature) a Discovery Channel program. His expertise is in the management of venomous reptiles, tracking the species they need for filming and ecosystem interpretation. René has taken part in many projects in search of flora and fauna species. These have ranged from herpetological trips to white sharks, whales, big cats and birds of prey. René’s aim is to document as many species as possible.
René’s life-long love affair with nature began at an early age. Through the years this has flourished, and Rene is now a conservationist who campaigns against the obliteration of our flora and fauna, particularly in his hometown of Mexico. A few years back, René was bitten by a venomous snake and it almost killed him. He spent a week in a coma and his organs collapsed. He survived and his spiritual relationship with death changed. It became his muse.
René draws inspiration from the great naturalists who have shaped science, humanities and biology. Some of these people include Alexander Von Humboldt, Charles Darwin, Francis Hallé and Sir David Attenborough. The older scientific illustrations are an important representation of René naturalist profile. René’ s artworks have appeared in galleries alongside other well-known artists.
History Natvrae was established in 2013. History Natvrae came about to deliver a place for everyone who wanted to learn about nature, history and art. History Natvrae offers courses, workshops, diplomas, expeditions and events that allows people to achieve their naturalist wishes. Like stepping into a cabinet of curiosities, you will be surrounded by books, artworks, skeletons, museum pieces and more – plenty to inspire one’s inner artist to flourish.
