The Panther Chameleon, Furcifer pardalis is found in the eastern and northern parts of Madagascar in a tropical forest biome. Male F. pardalis are larger and more brightly colored than females. Panther chameleons are solitary and extremely territorial. They spend their entire life in isolation, with the exception of mating season. If males come into contact with one another, they change color and inflate their bodies, trying to assert dominance. Usually the confrontation ends here, the loser turning dull and dark colors and backing away. Sometimes, the displays will result in a physical fight if neither male will back down.
